McCall, ID

Payette Lake
McCall is a beautiful town nestled in the mountains near the central portion of Idaho. It is a fairly touristy destination all year round as it offers visitors a wide range of outdoor activities, both in McCall and the surrounding areas.

One of its main attractions is Payette Lake. During the summer you can find people enjoying themselves as they participate in all types of water sports.
The winter is no different as people take advantage of the lake when it freezes over and allows for easy passage from shore to shore for cross country skiers or those on snowmobiles. Of course, when this happens, it also means the lake is transformed into a gigantic ice skating rink. Speaking of winter, there are several ski resorts located in the area. The one we went snowboarding at was Brundage Mountain Ski Resort which is located about 8 miles northwest of McCall.

There are plenty of hotels to choose from, but another option is to rent a cabin or house, which is what we did for one of our visits here (pictures down below in the gallery). Depending on the time of year and the size of the property, rentals can be a little pricey, but if you have a larger group, you might end up saving a little coin going this route. Another benefit to this is, a cabin or a house can make it easier for everyone to socialize.

On one of our summer trips here we went white water rafting down the Salmon River in a near by town north of McCall called Riggins. While on the river we took a break at the Time Zone Bridge, which is a bridge that, depending on your direction of travel, allows you to cross into either the Mountain Time Zone or the Pacific Time Zone. Time travel is not just for Marty McFly or Doc Brown anymore!

McCall is a smaller town which means that some resources are somewhat limited. There are certainly great restaurants to select from and shops to visit, but not as many diverse or specialty places you might find in a larger city. We have spent time here on several occasions and absolutely love this area and look forward to our next adventure here.
