New Orleans, LA

New Orleans
New Orleans, a city famous for food and drink. Founded in 1718, New Orleans has a long, rich history to include being the French Louisiana capital until the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 where it was acquired by the United States.

New Orleans has been a people magnet since its inception and nothing has changed as the city still attracts thousands of visitors each year. People visit this area to experience the food, have fun on Bourbon Street, interact with the culture, and maybe even dabble in a little Voodoo.
Side note, we have visited the country of Benin which is considered the birth place of Voodoo. Some of the symbols we saw there were similar to some we have seen in New Orleans before. Our time in Benin was a learning experience all the way around and it was interesting to tie some of the cultural influence found there into New Orleans, which is in our home state.

If you visit New Orleans, or any part of Louisiana, be sure to bring your appetite with you. In our opinion, some of the best tasting food in the country is found in this area. It is flavorful, spicy and will make you come back for seconds, maybe even thirds. There is a saying here, "in other places of the country people eat to live, in Louisiana, people live to eat". That statement could not be any more true and one of the reasons we enjoy living in Louisiana.

Speaking of food, if you visit New Orleans be sure to stop off at Cafe Du Monde. They are famous for their Chicory Coffee and Beignets (pictured above) which make for a nice morning snack, especially after a long night on Bourbon Street! Another place we would recommend is The National WWII Museum, which in our opinion is one of the most amazing military museums in the country and one of the most visited places in New Orleans.

We find New Orleans is very easy to navigate on foot. Some destinations are fairly far apart, but catching a cab or other means of transportation is relatively easy. Just like so many other cities, great food is easy to find and they have a good selection of different cultural restaurants to choose from. We have visited this city several times over and look forward to another adventure here one day!
