New York City, NY

New York City
New York, a city so great Frank Sinatra sang about it! If you spend a little time walking around and getting to know the area, you can understand why so many people visit and why Ol' Blue Eyes enjoyed it so much.

It is quit possibly one of the most well known cities around the world. When we meet people while traveling abroad they sometimes ask where we are from and when we reply with, "America", they occasionally say, "oh, New York!"
Without question, New York is considered the biggest of the big cities in the United States and if you ask a New Yorker, it is the only important one too. There is nothing wrong with taking pride in your city, especially when it consistently holds the title of the most visited city in America.

Although it is a busy city with a lot going on and people trying to get from one destination to the other, we still find it a very friendly place. New Yorkers get a bad rap and are often considered "rude or mean" people. Certainly that character type exists here, but it can also be found anywhere else. This is our take on that perception (#ProTip). People in this city are in a rush and want to get where ever they are going without too much interruption. Understanding that, if you need to ask someone for direction and you quickly get to the point, more times than not, they are happy to help. If you drag your story or question out (like some of our Bourn Adventure articles) then you will probably meet that "rude" New Yorker, especially when ordering food ("no soup for you!"). Bottom line, don't waste their time!

Just like some of the other large cities we have visited, there is no shortage of things to see and do here. If you have the opportunity we would recommend visiting some of the following places, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Intrepid Museum, 9/11 Memorial, Central Park, Empire State Building, and Grand Central Terminal (also known as Grand Central Station).  This is just a small list. If you want to take in a show, visit Broadway. If you want to experience music, sit in Carnegie Hall. If you want to be dazzled, stand in Time Square. If you want a snack, hit a food cart. The list goes on and on.

We find New York is very easy to navigate on foot. Some destinations are fairly far apart, but catching a cab or other means of transportation is relatively easy. Just like so many other cities, great food is easy to find and they have a good selection of different cultural restaurants to choose from. We have visited this city several times over and look forward to another adventure here one day!
