Philadelphia, PA

Philadelphia
Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love. This city is know for much more than just Philly Cheesesteaks, which to be fair, are absolutely delicious and is not a bad thing at all to be known for. Mater of fact, we think if Bourn Adventure was known for something as yummy as a Philly Cheesesteak more people would follow us. Moving on. Philadelphia was founded in 1682 and at one time was the largest city in the United States. It is also one of the oldest cities in the nation and because of this, a lot of American history can be found here.

Not to mention, Philadelphia has great historical significance as it was the meeting place for the Founding Fathers during the American Revolution and where they signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
At one point, Philadelphia was the nations capital until it was later moved to Washington D.C. in 1790. There is no shortage of things to see and do here. For instance, visiting Independence National Historical Park, which includes Independence Hall, Ben Franklin Museum, and the Liberty Bell. If you venture over to the "Old City" you can walk down Elfreth's Alley, which dates back to the early 1700's and is considered the oldest residential street in America.

While in this area
you can also visit other historic sites such as: the home of Elizabeth Griscom (commonly known as Betsy Ross) who is credited as creating/sewing the first American Flag. Although the design has changed, the history has not, therefore, the museum here can be very busy as people from all over the nation and world flock to visit the birth place of the American Flag.

We find that Philadelphia is very easy to navigate on foot. Just like so many other cities, great food is easy to find, especially Philly Cheesesteaks! This city also has a good selection of different cultural restaurants to choose from. The hotel we stayed at was the
Residence Inn Philadelphia Center City, which is located on the square right outside of Philadelphia City Hall. We were very pleased with our stay here and the hotels location within the city in terms of ease of sightseeing. It was not that far of a walk to see the Swann Memorial Fountain and other attractions.

When we visited, the city was busier than normal as the NFL Draft was going on. Although some places were very crowded, this did not negatively affect our experience. We still had a great time, and just like the Fresh Prince, we look forward to our next adventure here where we can "chillin' out, maxin', relaxin', all cool" while we do the tourist thing.
