San Francisco, CA

Golden Gate Bridge
San Francisco is most notably known for the Golden Gate Bridge, which is an impressive structure that crosses over the strait that connects San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean. This area is known as the Golden Gate; hence the name of the bridge.

This iconic bridge spans approximately 1.7 miles in length and attracts an estimated 10 million visitors each year. Although the Golden Gate Bridge mostly accommodates vehicle traffic, it also allows for foot traffic as well.
The provided foot traffic path is divided from the bridge roadway by railing, which allows its users a dedicated pathway from shore to shore. Walkers, runners, and cyclists take advantage of this accommodation and use it daily for their work outs or to commute into the office. Visitors also enjoy walking the bridge for the experience and for the spectacular views that can be had from the deck on a clear day. This area is notorious for fog and at times can mask the entire bridge. When the fog begins to clear, the Golden Gate Bridge seems to appear from nowhere as though it was part of a magic trick.

The bridge, along with some of the surrounding areas is referred to as the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and falls under the care of the National Park Service (NPS) who, in our opinion, does a fantastic job with this area, along with so many other places they are responsible for. To learn more about the NPS, their history, and their global footprint, please read our article here: United States National Parks

The city of San Francisco has much more to offer as well. There are parks, museums, gardens, and so much more for visitors to see and do. The city is also known for the views provided while driving down some of the large slopping roads.
Just like so many other cities, great food is easy to find here and they have a good selection of different cultural restaurants to choose from. We look forward to our next adventure here!
